In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Mazda CX-70 achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Lincoln Nautilus has not been tested.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the CX-70’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Nautilus doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the CX-70 and the Nautilus have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Mazda CX-70 is safer than the Lincoln Nautilus:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the Mazda CX-70 is safer than the Lincoln Nautilus:

Instrumented handling tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and analysis of its dimensions indicate that the CX-70 is 1.4% to 4.2% less likely to roll over than the Nautilus.

The Mazda CX-70 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2026 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention test. The Nautilus is only a standard “Top Safety Pick” for 2026.

Warranty

There are over 26 percent more Mazda dealers than there are Lincoln dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the CX-70’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the CX-70 second among midsize suvs in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The Nautilus isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Mazda vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mazda third in reliability, above the industry average. With 60 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is ranked 24th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Mazda vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mazda 6 places higher in reliability than Lincoln.

The CX-70 PHEV can travel with zero emissions for 32 miles. The Nautilus can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Brakes and Stopping

The CX-70’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Nautilus are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the CX-70 has larger standard tires than the Nautilus (265/55R19 vs. 255/60R19). The CX-70 Turbo/Turbo S’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Nautilus (275/45R21 vs. 255/60R19).

The CX-70 PHEV’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Nautilus’ standard 60 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the CX-70’s wheelbase is 8.6 inches longer than on the Nautilus (122.8 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the CX-70 is 1.9 inches wider in the front and 1.9 inches wider in the rear than on the Nautilus.

The CX-70 Turbo S Premium handles at .86 G’s, while the Nautilus Black Label pulls only .77 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The CX-70 PHEV SC Plus executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.9 seconds quicker than the Nautilus Black Label (26.9 seconds @ .66 average G’s vs. 28.8 seconds @ .59 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the CX-70 Turbo Preferred has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Nautilus (8 vs. 7.9 inches), allowing the CX-70 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The CX-70 Premium/PHEV’s minimum ground clearance is .2 inch higher than on the Nautilus (8.1 vs. 7.9 inches).

Passenger Space

The CX-70 has 28.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Nautilus (141.6 vs. 113.5).

The CX-70 has .1 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front shoulder room and .1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Nautilus.

Cargo Capacity

The CX-70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Nautilus with its rear seat up (39.6 vs. 36.4 cubic feet). The CX-70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Nautilus with its rear seat folded (75.3 vs. 71.3 cubic feet).

Towing

The CX-70’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Nautilus’ (3500 vs. 0 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Lincoln Nautilus is only 1750 pounds. The CX-70 offers up to a 5000 lbs. towing capacity.

Servicing Ease

The engine in the CX-70 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Nautilus. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

The CX-70 PHEV SC Plus/Premium has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Nautilus doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the CX-70 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Nautilus doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.
